Katchal Island was the worst effected island during 2004 Tsunami as many parts of the island got submerged and the beauty of pristine island was destroyed by the tsunami waves.
After the Tsunami, the Police Station has been shifted from Kapanga to Mildera and currently runs from a pre-fabricated structure. The jurisdiction of the Police Station extends over villages E-Wall, Meenakshi Ram Nagar, Japan Tikrey, Beach Dera and Upper Katchal. This Island is not open to tourists and a Tribal Pass is required to be obtained by the Non-islanders from the A&N administration to visit this island.
